Why Creativity Keeps Me Grounded
I started this blog because I needed a place to put things. Not just words — though there will be words — but the whole messy, colorful, unfinished collection of creative projects that pile up in my life.
I sketch. I play with color palettes. I rearrange rooms. I once spent an entire weekend designing a custom birthday invitation for Goni’s party, and when Yoni asked if anyone would notice the difference between two nearly identical shades of coral, I said, “I’ll notice.” He laughed. He always laughs, but he also always frames the invitations.
Here’s what I’ve figured out: creativity isn’t about making something good. It’s about making something yours. When I was a nurse, I cared for people using a set of skills someone else defined. When I design, I care for myself using skills I’m still inventing. Both matter. But the second one took me longer to allow.
For years, I told myself my creative side was “just a hobby.” As if hobbies are small. As if the thing you do to feel alive is less important than the thing you do to earn a living. It’s not. I know that now.
So this is my space. For sketches and stories and half-finished ideas. For the nursing memories and the design experiments and the Sunday morning chaos. For Goni and Yarden and Yoni, who make all of it possible.
If you’re here, reading this — thank you. I hope you find something that makes you want to go make something of your own.
